BEATDOWN HOUSE
THE ASK:
Beatdown House is one of the original footwork musical productions from South Side Chicago. They have been lauded as the grandfathers of their genre. But their overall marketing and identity was in need of a rebrand.
The new branding was created with the intention of celebrating their strength as a group, the culture it represents and incorporating that into a visual symbol which would clearly reflect their name.
THE PROCESS:
From the most obvious perspective their logo is a house that contains within it a down arrow, reflecting their name ‘Beatdown House’. But, on a second glance their band acronym letters ‘b’ and ‘d’ are also present as part of the house, and moving upward in a positive direction. The symbol also looks like the silhouette of an Egyptian warrior (the top triangular section of the logo as a pharoa’s head piece - he is in a power stance with his fists down), pointing to their African heritage and the strength that comes along with a long and difficult history. The next period of design had Chana creating marketable materials, merch, album covers, and media ads.
