SPECTACLE
THE ASK:
Spectacle is a Denver rock band. They are a creative and highly talented musical team currently expanding on social media and touring the united states.
As their fan base was growing they needed a solid brand identity to market to various labels and band management agencies. Their old identity was not in line with their new direction and they had specific ideas to implement into their new logo.
The band wanted something more modern that matched their musical style and band vibe. They wanted something colorful and something that reflected the more spiritual side of the word spectacle. Possibly invoking their home town Denver, and the northern lights. They were conflicted in color scheme and whether or not to keep the recognizability of their old logo.

THE PROCESS:
To hit the brief a tertiary color scheme was used, perfect to imitate a sunset above a mountain range. This highlighted their Denver home. The logo was also inspired by the curvy shapes and dazzling colors of the northern lights. The logo would emulate its original version with scripted lettering and a big ‘S’. However, the new ‘S’ would be detachable and usable as a secondary logo option.
That ‘S’ was designed at once as a letter shape and also a musical note appearing to fly laterally across the page, bringing movement to the design and the idea of music subconsciously to the viewer. It’s 3d curviness and gradients, invoke ideas of the future and space travel, bringing a sense of magic and adventure. The logo was also kept within the golden mean ratio from one end of the ‘S’ to the other.
THE OUTCOME:
Above is the brand guidelines for Spectacle. As is seen many incarnations of their logo were created to give them a large variety of options to choose from for merch, print, videos, and ads.
Just one year after the completion of their brand Spectacle was signed to a major international label. They completed a kickstarter campaign, more than doubled their fan base and were booked for festivals and major event spaces nationally. Chana is still acting as their brand director, helping to guide their creative journey, facilitating their brand to grow along side the evolution of their musical collaboration.
